What About Smoothies?

 Hello, Beauties!

One thing that I've found over the last few years is just how much my overall health is affected by what I eat. If you've seen anything health-related recently, you'll know at least something about gut health, nutrition, supplements, or smoothies.

Diet, nutrition, health, wellness--fads, crazes, the latest and greatest are nothing new. Humans have been finding ways to build health and cure what ails them forever. Little apothecary bottles of tonics, rest cures, opiates, waist minimizers--the history of health, beauty, and wellness is rich, and sometimes comical. Do you remember when Coco Chanel came back from holiday with a TAN? Only "working" folks who couldn't afford the luxury of doing nothing all day had sun-baked skin. It was positively scandalous!

But what happens next? The new, underground "thing" becomes mainstream and wildly popular, whether it works or not. It's a never ending cycle of wanting to be included in whatever is happening. Then the next movement starts rumbling, people want to try something else, and another miracle health boom is born.

I'll admit, I've tried to avoid this in my life. I roll my eyes at the new diet crazes. I don't believe in restricting entire food groups or types of nutrition. Especially since I have to due to stomach and autoimmune issues. I can't eat gluten, not even a little. I haven't had an Oreo in over ten years. I don't like people knowing because I don't want them to roll their eyes at my "diet." I cut out dairy two years ago to help push my Sarcoidosis into remission. It has truly been a miracle for me, but I would never, ever choose not to eat "normal" food if it didn't directly impact my health.

The last thing I wanted to do was suck down smoothies. With Type 2 Diabetes in my history, (it's fully managed with diet and exercise,) I have always seen these massive jugs of churned fruit as a sugar coma waiting to happen. But I found these incredible plant-based superfood (lots of micronutrients gathered together in a small amount of powder) supplements that I really wanted to add into my daily intake to boost and support my immunity.

And that's where my smoothie obsession started. Many, many failed attempts at making something that didn't taste disgusting but didn't overload my body with sugar. I've found a couple that I really enjoy, but truly they are a vehicle for delivering all the superfood supplements that I want to get in. Here is my current favorite recipe. All the supplements are from www.yoursuper.com
